Through our collaboration with SCILL, adult learners are now offered more comprehensive services and additional opportunities. The SCILL brings leadership and job specific skills training, thereby expanding the continuum of adult education beyond literacy and GED preparation. Now adult learners in the community can achieve not only basic education skills but also job specific skills along with workplace behavior skill training.

When I first visited the SCILL welding lab I was surprised. I did not expect to find the level of equipment or training any place in the United States, let alone Starke County, Indiana. Their expertise far exceeded my expectations. We have used them for advanced training for our welders and in consulting with our industry.

I couldn’t be happier with my total experience at the SCILL adult welding program. With no hands-on experience and little confidence in my ability to learn welding, I discovered that my instructor’s (Andy Odle) encouragement and inspiration helped get me through. I never dreamed that I could complete this program, become certified and have my future in front of me. The program not only covers hands-on experience, but also helps prepare participants with mock interviewing, resume building, and a job fair with area employers. I could not be happier with my decision to take this program.

The adult welding class was a wonderful experience, and I learned so much in my training time with instructor Andy Odle. I served in the military and witnessed first-hand training and leadership and say without qualification that Mr. Odle is tops in that area. My training experience was great, and I am proud to say that I earned three American Welding Society certifications after my twelve weeks of training.

Even though I plan on a career in the health care field, I am glad that I attended SCILL, as I learned valuable skills on how to work on a car. The instructors are great and help you every chance that they get and I have learned so much.

I found SCILL to be a great place to learn, as they have the best equipment and tools to learn with. The instructors push you to succeed, and on top of the training that you receive while a student, they continue to make you feel like part of the family after you leave there.

While at SCILL, I learned skills in automotive matters as well as life skills. My instructors pushed me to achieve my goals and reach success. I would give this program my highest recommendation and even after graduation, the instructors and director continue to assist you in obtaining employment.

After graduating from SCILL in 2004, I went to Lincoln Tech in Indianapolis and graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Automotive Service Management. Because of the influence of Mr. Dawson and Mr. Anderson, my instructors at SCILL, I am now pursuing certification to become an automotive instructor.
